Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity
“We tried to keep the family together.
Without Rainbow Trust
we wouldn’t have been able to do that.”
Cindy, mother of Josh
No one expects to outlive their children. Imagine being told your child might die before you. Sadly this is the reality for 10,000 families a year in the UK.
Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity provides emotional and practical support for families when their child has a life-threatening or terminal illness.
Set up in 1986, they offer the whole family individually tailored high quality support through their eight teams of Family Support Workers. They aim to maintain a sense of normality, and keep families together by ensuring help is provided not only to the sick child, but also anxious parents, grandparents and worried brothers and sisters.
Rainbow Trust helps family members cope with the present and prepare them for the future.
No other organisation provides the range of professional care and consistency of contact that Rainbow Trust offers. Their work is a vital emotional and practical lifeline to those who turn to them.
2011 is our 25th year of providing support to families in crisis, our vision is that one day all terminally ill children and their families will have access to a Rainbow carer and with the help of Enduro India and its participants we will get there.
How Enduro India Supports Rainbow Trust
Rainbow Trust has eight teams of Family Support Workers operating from bases across the country, these offer immediate help to families in need.
Enduro India has supported Rainbow Trust since 2003 and has to date donated more than £375,000. That’s around £41,000 every year. These incredible donations are made possible through the fundraising efforts of you the participants and they fund Bryan, the Manager of our Family Support Team based in Swindon.
Caring for a very sick child can be extremely traumatic, demanding and isolating for both the parents and the healthy siblings. Bryan provides hands on, practical and emotional support for families with a terminally ill child.
Performing a role most of us couldn’t contemplate, Bryan helps to keep the households of the families he supports running, by helping with hospital trips, performing household duties, taking the siblings to school, and looking after them when parents remain in hospital with their sick child.
In many cases Bryan provides care during the final stages of a child’s life.
“Rainbow has given me the chance to be a real mum to Oli and not just his nurse. Our family support worker Caroline helped me to decipher what was Ollie’s illness and what was normal baby behaviour. I know that Oliver will leave us one day but thanks to Rainbow Trust, Mark and I can make the most of every moment he is with us.”
Oliver’s Mum, Marie
We are incredibly grateful for the ongoing support of Enduro India. 2012 will be the 10th anniversary of the Enduro India rides and we are delighted to be able to celebrate so many years of support.
If you are not signed up yet, and you need one more reason to do it, take it from us – it's an incredible experience, a true challenge of a lifetime.
